Information Architecture – for the user.

// November 9th, 2009 // No Comments » // Ramblings

I was in collaboration on a recent project where the there was some confusion around the term ‘information archictecture’ as it pertained to web development. There seemed to be a disconnect in understanding that the web site as a whole can be considered a system and that navigation is not outside of that system. (more…)

Cufon – making the web designer’s life less font limited

// September 11th, 2009 // No Comments » // Design, Ramblings

If you haven’t been informed of “Cufon – fonts for the people” yet you are missing out on big joy. Essentially Cufon is a font generator that provides an easy way for web builders and developers to utilize any TTF or OTF fonts in their web builds.

It is fast rendering in web sites, uses canvas and VML, doesn’t use flash, and uses no images. The result is beatifully rendered fonts which is entirely refreshing in web layouts and design. Anyone else sick of a web littered with the poor use of arial, verdana, or georgia?

I don’t think that there is a surplus of jobs in Calgary and my resume hasn’t changed. So why is it so much easier to find e-business work in Calgary compared to Vancouver? (more…)

On re-locating from Vancouver to Calgary

// May 12th, 2009 // No Comments » // Ramblings

I have recently had to make the decision to re-locate from Vancouver to Calgary for family reasons. In being here only a short time I have noticed some interesting differences not just in the actual landscape but the social/employment landscape as well.

In the absence of a nearby ocean and being thousands of feet above sea level the air in Calgary is dryer. Ahh my skin and hair.
