Using twitter as a marketing tool
// May 7th, 2009 // Social Media
Twitter can be used for many things. Companies and people just getting involved in micro blogging seem a little unsure. I was.
Yet it is changing the way we do things. It seems to be changing marketing strategies.
The way to look at twitter is, not as individual messages, but as pieces that create a whole footprint of an individual or company. When explored this way it makes much more sense.
Companies are using twitter to promote real time sales. Blogger’s are using it to promote their postings. Magazines are sharing links to new articles. Individual’s are communicating with people that share common interests. Organizations can use twitter as a way to build brand and identity that wasn’t before possible. At least not as quickly.
Other uses for twitter include: following news and journalists, promoting special offers, and avoiding cyber loneliness.
We are seeing the social marketing explosion. Companies are hiring individuals to manage their social media identities. People who understand the space, can blog about products and services, and will market their company on a minute by minute basis. While it may not initially seem like a huge return on investment for companies to involve social media in their marketing strategies they will be glad they did.
It takes time to build your company’s footprint.
